Last week the Royal Air Force Air Cadets of Merseyside Wing were joined by members of the United States Space Force (USSF), including Royal Air Force Officer, Flight Lieutenant James Reuben, the British Detachment Commander with the 2nd Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Garrison in Colorado, via a virtual presentation using Microsoft Teams.
The aim of the evening was to provide the Cadets with an insight of the growing field of space technology to support the efforts of United States as well our own United Kingdom’s Armed Forces, to protect our interests at home and abroad, as well as the relationship between our two nations. The subjects discussed included the makeup of the USSF as a new branch of the United States Military, its role, and the mission it has both on the ground and in space.
The presentation as a great success with our Cadets leaving with a more thorough understanding of this new frontier with some exceptionally good questions posed to Flight Lieutenant Reuben by many of those attending, as well as our Wing Aerospace Officer, Flight Lieutenant Robbie Blackhurst RAFAC.
“To have to opportunity to engage with the US Space Force was a special opportunity for Merseyside Wing. The work that they are doing is literally out of this world and exciting to have an insight into. We would welcome the opportunity to stay on touch and run a similar session in the future.”- Flight Lieutenant Robbie Blackhurst RAFAC
A big thank you from all of us who attended the presentation to Flight Lieutenant Blackhurst for organising it, and to Flight Lieutenant Reuben and his USSF colleagues who gave their time to explain their roles.
